Salba® & You
Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs)
Not all fats are bad. Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) are necessary fats that the human body cannot manufacture and must obtain from the food we eat. These are the ‘good fats’ that raise your High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) or ‘good cholesterol’ and support a number of vital body functions, such as the cardiovascular, reproductive and nervous systems. EFAs are needed to manufacture and repair cell membranes and for the production of prostaglandins, which regulate body functions, such as heart rate and blood pressure. EFAs also play a role in immune efficiency by regulating inflammation and encouraging the body to fight infection.
Omega-3s vs 6s
There are two families of EFAs – Omega-3s (Alpha-Linolenic Acid) and Omega-6s (Linoleic Acid). Fats from each of these families are essential, as the body can convert omega-3s to create more omega-3s, for example, but cannot create omega-3s from omega-6s or saturated fats. The average person’s diet generally provides enough omega-6s for the body’s needs. However, modern-day diets, eating habits and processed food rarely supply us with the amount of omega-3s that our body needs.

Flax Seed & Chia Seed Comparison
Salba® has More Nutrients than Common Chia
The Salba® agronomic teams have invested the past 15 years researching Salba® (Salvia hispanica L.). During those 15 years, Salba® seeds have been grown utilising the perfect location, the perfect soil composition, the perfect climate, the perfect irrigation methods, the perfect crop lifecycle, the perfect amount of sunlight, and the perfect art of Non-GMO selective breeding.
Salba® seeds are hand-picked, and only the seeds with the highest nutrient density are harvested and replanted. The result? Higher quantities of the quality nutrients you need and guaranteed consistency from crop to crop. When you choose Salba®, you choose quality of life.

Salba® is More Nutritious and Easier to Use than Flax Seed
Flax seed has been a popular supplement for years due to its high fibre and omega-3 fatty acids content. Based on recent research and USDA verified information, Salba® has 25-30% more fibre than flax seed and it maintains the ideal 3.5-to-1 omega-3s to omega-6s ratios.
Salba® seeds also have other natural advantages over flax seeds. Unlike flax, Salba® is 100% bioavailable when consumed as a whole seed. Flax seeds have a thick husk that cannot be digested and must be ground to release the benefits of omega-3s. And while flax seed has a powerful, nutty flavour and an oily consistency, Salba® seeds have a neutral flavour and a smooth texture that makes them the perfect functional ingredient in any recipe.
